Ricky Rubio's Impressive But Short Season

Many speculated two years ago, that when Ricky Rubio was drafted high but unable to play immediately for the Minnesota Timberwolves due to his unresolved contract in Europe, that he probably wouldn't pan out to live up to half of the hype anyway. Why? Well despite knowing that he had been playing professionally in Europe for a few years already even though he was 18-19 yrs. old at the time, performed incredibly and achieved champion status while doing so, people still thought that he wouldn't be athletic enough nor tough enough. Well at the start of this season it was time for Rubio to prove the haters wrong or show the Timberwolves genius and the latter he did. Ricky Rubio immediately made an impact the way that he had his whole life and thats by being a very clever and fluid floor general. He got the ball to players in the right place at the right time. He also provided enough of an offensive threat to keep offense honest as well. He quieted the doubters from the start. Proved a lot of people wrong. This kid can play and it was evident every time he stepped on the floor. Unfortunately, his rookie season was court short last week as Rubio suffered a season ending injury but with rookie #'s of 10.6 points per, 8.2 assist per and 4.2 rebounds per, its plain to see that the Timberwolves have something special and with the young athletic players around him, the sky is the limit!!!

Seminoles Reign Surpreme

Florida State would have been no ones pick to win it all Friday considering that they would have to beat #6 Duke and #3UNC consecutively to do so. Well on Saturday in the semi final game against Duke they fought to keep Duke at bay for the majority of the contest with their aggressiveness, length, and interior athleticism. They shot the ball very well and played the game with a certain measure of confidence helped them to sustain. After that upset, knowing how they had blown UNC out earlier in the regular season, being led by the strengthen wisdom of Coach Hamilton and knowing how the roll that the Tarheels are on, a lot of people counted the Seminoles out. What they didn't consider was, what if the confidence carried over? What if the Seminoles look at it like, "we beat both of them this season already and know what it takes." Just like Duke was missing an intricate piece Ryan Kelly, UNC was missing John Henson. Obviously FSU doesn't play the pity game because they came into Sunday as if they were the #1 seed, as if they were the regular season champions. Though Carolina made a push near late in the second half to bring it to within 1, FSU went on to win its first ever ACC Tournament Championship. Will, determination and consistency pays off. No be surprised by anything that FSU may do in the NCAA Tournament either. Congrats to the NOLES well deserved.

Big East Battles: Day 3

Day 3 of the Big East Tournament took place Thursday and was action packed as usual. Plenty of down to the wire, clutch play, overtime, buzzer beater, lead shifting type of action starring the tough playing Big East squads. Being from ACC country, I still have to admit that in recent history, the Big East offers the best conference tournament in college basketball. What's the recipe for this consistent, high-end play. Well in my opinion, the tough defensive style of play with recent Big East squads help to set the tone for exciting tournament play. The overall quality of the  history between the programs between teams like Syracuse, Georgetown, and UConn, greatly contributes as well. Few years back, there was a Syracuse game that went to 6 overtimes, an unbelievable competition of will that will go down in tourney history. In the third day of this 2012 tourney winners include #2 Syracuse in a tightly played game with a talented but inconsistent UConn team after they upset West Virginia a day prior, #23 Notre Dame over USF in a overtime battle,  Cincinnati upset Georgetown in a nail biter, and Louisville takes down higher ranked Marquette. So as you can see from just the number of upsets, the next two days are poised to deliver more of that good ole, can't miss action for us all to sit back and enjoy. In this tourney, you never know what will happen next....Stay tuned!!!

Rondo Makes Trade Talk Look Ridiculous

Being that Rondo is the Celtics scrappiest defender, quickest overall player, and deadliest penetrator, talking about trading him from a team where everyone else is as old as Moses was already silly, but Sunday made that whole idea sound even worse! Sunday against the over hyped Jeremy Lin, Rajon Rondo put up an Oscar Robinson like stat line by posting 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 20 assist! When I saw this developing, I was in disbelief but should not have been. These are unusual #'s for most lil guards in the league but not Rondo. He is probably the most overall active player in the league. Never stops moving, scrapping, diving running etc. He's like a nat as a defender, crashes the boards with the trees, and attacks off the dribble with the best of them. This isn't the first time Rondo has had super triple doubles though. He has actually had some of his best statistical games in previous playoffs which initiated him being brought up in the "best point guard in the NBA" convo in the first place. This past Sunday may have topped them all though. Only Oscar Robertson and Wilt Chamberlain have ever put up at least 18 points, 17 rebounds and 20 assist in a game. Crazy stuff. I'm sure there are plenty of teams who wouldn't mind having a PG with that type of talent in their line up!!! I hope Danny Ainge wouldn't be that silly.....

Revenge in the First Degree

What better way to get revenge on an unnecessary foul in an all-star game, that broke your nose and left you with a slight concussion than to drop 33pts in a win, on the accused with a protective mask on just a week later. Thats exactly what Kobe Bryant did Sunday vs. the Miami Heat. In a 10pt win, Kobe had a stellar performance in which he shot over 60% and had solid games from his supporting cast, including the bench. With everyone on the Heat wagon, and everyone talking Durant/James only for MVP Kobe rises to the occasion to further prove why he still has the NBA throne on lockdown.

Round 2: UNC vs. Duke....Judgement Day

The day has come. Now after the incredible, down to the wire battle that we saw in Chapel Hill just a few weeks back, the rematch is upon us. On top of the memorable last second 3 point basket to win at the buzzer by Duke's Austin River's, the under dog position that Duke was in leading into that game, the irony has risen, being that this game will decide the ACC regular season champs. The excitement is in the air, the Kville campers are restless, and fans are anticipating

The Masked Mamba

Well after the ridiculous, completely uncalled for foul on Kobe Bryant from D'Wayne Wade during the freaking All-Star game (because he was upset that he didn't get a call on the other end), Bryant's nose began to bleed. Come to find out his nose was broken and he suffered a concussion all on that punk of a foul that was committed. However, as usual, Kobe defies the odds and steps past obstacles, which in this case is a protective mask. First game after All-Star break, Kobe comes out, masked up and drops 31!!! Seemed like possibly a little hate, especially seeing that Kobe passed Michael Jordan as all time leading scorer in All-Star game. Either way it was way too aggressive of a foul for any game, being that he never made a play on the ball and raked down on his head, neck area. So now masked up, Kobe will meet with public hater #1 Sunday as the Heat and Lakers square off. Beware of the masked man. Payback is a.......
